What to know before I find Lip Blush near me?
What is the Lip Blush?
Lip Blush is a semi-permanent makeup (cosmetic tattooing) technique that is now trending. This technique goal is to enhance the lips color, as well as their shape, by depositing ink on the top layer of your skin. As a result, it can give the impression of fullness and lips with more volume.
Is the Lip Blush permanent?
It is called semi-permanent makeup for a reason. It fades overtime, but it never fades 100%, which means it is permanent to some degree, but not like regular tattooing where it fades 0%. In case of the lips, it should not be a concern, but it is other permanent-makeup procedures for eyebrows.
Is it the same as a Lip Filler?
No. The Lip Blush only makes the lips appear to have more volume, but it is not intended to add volume as lip fillers would. Lip fillers are a different procedure, and should not be compared to the lip blushing results. In other words, for real volume you want to find someone that specializes in lip fillers, not lib blushing.
What are some of the pros of the Lip Blush?
The fact that you would have a semi-permanent lipstick look you can wear 24/7. Also, the fact that is smudge-proof, waterproof, and mess-free.
Is Lip Blush the same as tattooing my lips or doing regular tattoos?
Yes, and no. To be correct it is more of a cosmetic tattoo. Why? Well for starters because it is not permanent. If you were to do an actual tattoo it would be a painful process, and it would not give any correct natural results. By definition a tattoo is the insertion of pigments into the skin. The difference is that the lip blush does insert does pigments as deep to make it permanent.
The main reason it is a cosmetic tattoo is because the ink only go as deep as the epidermis layer of your skin. Regular tattoos deposit ink in the dermis layer of the skin, where ink stays to become permanent.
Is Lip Blush painful?
It depends. The lips are a very sensitive part of our skin. Everyone has different levels of sensitivity, so it varies for everyone. The good news is that this procedure we use a numbing cream to make the process bearable to not painful at all. In fact, this procedure uses thin needles that only scratch the top layer of the skin. So even if you are afraid from regular tattooing, you should definitely not be of the lip blushing.
There is only one part that is a little painful: The first 5 minutes as your artist do the outline of your lips. During this part of the procedure a numbing cream is not applied yet. This is because it can erase the line work your artist draws to define your lip's new shape. But once the outline is complete, your artist will apply the numbing cream to start filling in your lips.
Do I pick the shape and pigment color for my new lips?
One of the first steps of the appointment is talking about the color and shape. During this time your artist will discuss with you both of them. What you should know is that the pigment color is up to you, and you can pick any color in either a light or dark tone. You can even ask your artist to match your favorite lipstick color, or show her a picture of the color you want to get. As pro tip, I always recommend a natural looking pigment color for first timers, as it is easier to go dark in the future.
The new lips shape is a bit out of your control, but you may ask for certain things in the design. As an example you could ask for a slightly curved top lip, if you have flat or uneven lips. After talking about it, your artist can then do the mapping of your lips based on their current shape. From there that shape can be modified a little to give you a new shape that you like. Keep in mind that your artist should not be working outside of your actual lips too much. Otherwise parts of the lips can start too look fake, and different to the rest of your lips, making them look uneven.
Is it 1 appointment to complete this treatment?
Good news, this is not like the other permanent-makeup procedures. This technique only requires 1 appointment for results that can look great and last a long time. And is completely up to you to do a touch-up appointment around 2 months from the initial appointment. If you are happy with the color, and your goal are natural looking results you are. In this case it may take 1 more touch-up appointment after your initial visit.
Is the color going to stay as dark and intense as it looks right after the procedure?
The color intensity is something that you should pay attention to. The lips color in pictures after the procedure is not considered the final results color. To see the final color the lips need to go through a healing process may takes around 4-8 weeks from the day of your last appointment. After this period the lips have healed, and the color will correct and look around 30-60% lighter.
How long does it last?
This is a tricky question. Many people say the results lasts around 2-3 years, but that seems too long for a promise. Instead I say it is more like 1-2 years to not get super high expectations. The reason it varies from client to client is the following:
•Different life styles
•Different skin routines
•Different skin types
For that reason it is hard to predict what your outcome will look like in 1 or 2 years.
Is it expensive?
The typical cost usually ranges from $250-800 for the initial appointment. $250 being with a new artist, and $800 with a senior artist with a very exclusive clientele.
Is it Safe?
Short answer, is a safe procedure for those that qualify. It is important to find one of the many artists near you with at least one year of experience in the field. Keep in mind it is not required for your artist to be physician. You may need to talk to your artist about what could disqualify you from this procedure. It is also recommended to check with your physician if you have further questions. If you seem to think you don't qualify don't hit the "Book now" button until talking both to your artist and physician. Some of the most common conditions that would disqualify you are the following:
•Anyone under 18 years of age.
•Anyone pregnant and/or nursing.
•Anyone allergic to pigmentation and make up.
•Anyone with transmittable blood conditions. (i.e. Hepatitis or HIV).
•Anyone diabetic (will have to check with your doctor for his approval).
•Anyone taking antibiotics or steroid medication
What are the side effects after the Lip Blush?
After your appointment your lips will likely be swollen, and a little sore. Usually it is nothing major but you can use OTC medication for the swelling or pain during the first days. The swelling can last 1-3 days, but it is mild and nothing that would prevent you from going outside in public.
In rare occasions clients might experience cold sores. If you are prone to cold sores you should discuss with your artist before you book. Understanding the proper care instructions you will need to follow will be key for you.
What is the healing process like?
Immediately after the appointment you should not eat or drink anything for the following 3 hours. It is also important to apply ointment to keep your lips moisturized for the next 10 days. You may define a routine were you apply ointment to your lips at least 4 times a day. A pro tip would be to take a straw with you to drink during the first couple days post the appointment.
A big thing is that during the first 3-8 days your lips will start to peel as they heal. This is normal, and you should let the scabs fall on their own, especially if they take longer than expected.
There are a very specific list of things that you should avoid during the initial 10 days post treatment. Here are some examples:
•Don’t touch your lips or pick at the scabs or skin that starts peeling off.
•Don’t get the lips soaking wet. That is no long hot showers, swimming or excessive sweating.
•Don’t put any makeup or care products on the area besides the prescribed aftercare ointment.
•Don’t eat spicy or very salty foods – they’ll sting.
•Don’t drink anything too hot – it’ll trigger swelling.
•Don’t drink alcohol – it will burn and dry out your lips further.
•Don’t expose your lips to the sunlight. No tanning in the sun or in tanning beds for 3-4 weeks.
•Don’t sleep on your face.
•Don’t get teeth whitening.
After the first 10 days your lips will be almost healed. The rest is waiting for the color to continue to evolve until its final version, which can take 1-2 months. After this time you will be able to see the final results from the initial appointment. You can now decide if you want to book a touch-up appointment or are happy with your results.
